My Nose Is In One Of These

I promised my sister Kearstin that I'd periodically do a post on the books I've been reading. This way she can quickly pick up some of my recommended books at Barnes & Noble in the middle of her busy soccer mom schedule. I've been a bit of a book worm lately, but here are three of my recent favorites.

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

If ever a book made me want to move to New York, this was it. It's about a young girl at the turn of the century who despite enduring poverty and tragic loss learns to crave learning, strength, and love. I absolutely loved this book and cried like a baby at the end. So good...

Say You're One Of Them

I have mixed feelings about this Oprah's Book Club selection. I was glad I read it because it gives a shockingly honest portrayal of real-life stories of African children. My only qualm with the book is that it's composed of a series of short stories. The length of the stories leaves you under-fed and a little frustrated. I wished I could have gotten a bigger glimpse into the character's lives.

Sarah's Quilt

This is the second book in the These Is My Words series. I found myself dreaming about living on a dusty cattle ranch and worrying about the impending drought season. I loved These Is My Words for the love story. Sarah's Quilt goes beyond a simple love story and delves deeper into emotions of betrayal, loss, and forgiveness. Sarah's character made a huge impression on me for some odd reason. I want to emulate the hard-working, disciplined, and loyal values that guide her choices. Blair tells me I need to get a life and not get so into these books (Just kidding - he doesn't really say that. I think he does question my emotional stability though when he comes home and finds me in the fetal position, bawling my eyes out from these amazing books! haha. )

What are your book recommendations? Now that reading, writing, and photography are my full-time pro bono jobs, I need your suggestions. Let em fly!!

Happy Friday!

Although not quite as intellectual as the books that you've listed, the Fablehaven series is a great series. All 5 books are great. Also, Sandra Grey's Traitor and Tribunal are about an LDS German Nazi. Traitor is Book 1 and Tribunal is the sequel. Excellent Books!
You are such an inspiration to me! I just love you!

Ash!!! Blair just gave me your blog address this last week, and I finally got a chance to get caught up on you two. I miss you guys. I'll never forget when I first met you at Blair's house right around Christmas. I felt like I already knew you, but you were even better in person. Books--Hunger Games. These books are as entertaining as anything I've read.
